Cat Had Struvite Urinary Tract Stones – What Should He Eat Now?

Hello,

My cat was recently diagnosed with bladder stones which were surgically removed 11 days ago. His stone analysis has come back determining that his stones are “struvite” stones.

I posted a question regarding his diet and got lots of helpful information (He was eating dry Wellness only up until recently) but can really use even more advice.

Since his surgery, he has *only* been eating wet/canned grain-free Wellness. The vet is STILL insisting that he be put on Hill’s C/D for the rest of his life – I’ve done a lot of reading on Hill’s and know this is not the solution, despite her protests.

Questions:

* Is the grain-free Wellness a good food choice for my kitty? The vet is only recommending the Hill’s C/D as a suitable diet choice.

* Is there anything else I can do to help him maintain a healthy urinary tract?
* Also, according to the food intake guidelines listed on the can, he should be eating 2-3 cans of food a day (He weighs almost 18 pounds, although I suspect he has lost a bit of weight recently). He is barely eating one can a day – Should I be worried?

Thanks very much in advance.
The ingredients in C/D are horrible. Just read the label, Jennifer.
Babydoll, I’m not here to argue with those of you who automatically agree with whatever the vet recommends when it comes to diet. If you did even the SLIGHTEST bit of research, you would know that Hill’s foods are filled with a bunch of crap (not to mention the fact that the company tests on animals, which I am against). Ask your vet what they know about pet nutrition – Chances are, they will tell you that they learned about the types of food they sells from the company’s sales representatives.

My question was not, “Should I just ignore all information out there indicating that Hill’s is a poor food and feed it to my cat anyway?” – So I’m not sure why you bothered answering.
Babydoll, I just read one of your recent questions. You state that declawing a cat isn’t “inhumane or dangerous” – Enough said. *rolls eyes*
